S2SW Team Member Profile: Pat Kent

Pat was the Peterborough Tourism & Steamtown Manager for 5 years from 2014-19. It was during this time that he had the vision to create the 415km Silver to Sea Way tourist trail from Broken Hill to Port Pirie (originally called the Heritage Rail Trail).

It was a tourism initiative primarily focused on creating compelling reasons for more visitors to ‘stop, stay & spend’ in the 14 towns and communities along the trail route, helping to future-proof the local visitor economies.

Within 2 years the initiative had won the Destination Marketing category at the South Australian Tourism Awards and finished in the top 6 at the Australian Tourism Awards.

Pat joined forces with the National Trust of South Australia (NTSA) in further promoting the S2SW after attending the 2018 National Heritage Tourism Summit in Burra. Together, Pat and NTSA drove two applications to the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund, finding success in Round 4 for $6.6M for S2SW Stage 1 – Port Pirie to Peterborough.

Pat proudly lives in the region and works closely with the S2SW towns and communities and alongside Quenten Agius and the Aboriginal Nations, all key stakeholders in this important regional economic revitalisation project.
